How to verify an AI shopping agent before checkout
Agentic checkout creates a simple identity problem: a request can claim to represent a shopper, but the claim does not authenticate the software or prove what it may buy.
What the standard means in practice
A claimed agent name is not proof. Use authenticated identity, scoped authorization, and transaction controls before letting software buy.
Set a narrow rule, verify it with production evidence, and keep a rollback path. Review the rule whenever vendors, page behavior, or data flows change.
A practical check
- Write down the intended behavior and exceptions.
- Test both the expected path and a failure path.
- Measure the result in real traffic without collecting more data than needed.
